"AMERICA'S BACKYARD" NO MORE: LATIN AMERICA GOES RED, ISLAMIC GREEN

Organizations and nations hostile to the interests or very existence of the United States are using Latin America, once considered "America's Backyard," as their personal playground.

From militants marching under the green banner of Islam to Marxist true believers, Latin America is becoming an increasingly unstable region, but one that receives little attention from the media. The United States' southern border is open not merely to illegal aliens, but also to terror infiltrators of various descriptions.

One high profile terror suspect, Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, a 29 year-old Saudi pilot and bombmaker, is on a FBI border watch list, and may seek to enter the U.S. from Mexico into Arizona or Texas. El Shukrijmuah is suspected of being a terror operative active in Central America shortly before the 9/11 attacks.

Recent reports indicate that terror network operatives are active in Mexico and throughout Central and South America.

Two Marxist guerrilla armies are active in Colombia and control significant areas of that South American region. Though ideologically different from Islamic terror organizations, the Communist guerrillas and Muslim fundamentalists share a common enemy - the U.S.

Colombia's neighbor to the south is Venezuela, governed by its pro-Marxist president, Hugo Chavéz, who remains in office following a hotly disputed recall attempt by his opponents. The recall failed amid charges of "gigantic fraud" in vote counting.

Roman Catholic Cardinal José Castillo Lara, president emeritus of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican City State, joined a chorus of individuals condemning Venezuela's recall vote, and termed the election a "gigantic fraud" during a broadcast interview over Vatican Radio, according to the Zenit news agency.

Cardinal Lara cited government control of the voting process, vote tampering, and bribery as the means pro-government forces used to control the election.

The retention of Chavéz may be key to the red-green terror coalition operating in Latin America. Reports have linked terror groups with Chavéz, an understudy of long-time Communist revolutionary leader, Cuban President Fidel Castro.

Chavéz has even expressed his admiration for Communist North Korea as a "model" for Venezuela to follow.

A growing Marxist-oriented national coalition is growing in South America, led by Chavéz and Castro. Together with the leftist-oriented governments of Brazil and Argentina, Chavéz and Castro are seeking to draw smaller regional states into the establishment of an economically and politically united Latin America.

Whether or not the dreams of Chavéz, Castro and other Marxists come, the present reality in Latin America is that the region is now a fertile ground for all who hate and are determined to destroy the United States.

The U.S. and its politicians ignore the situation at the nation's peril.
